The Library is a department
of the City of Schertz and as such operates under the ordinances
and operating guidelines of the City. The Library was established
by City Council in 1978 in response to a petition by a
group of concerned
citizens who decried the lack of library services in the city
and the western end of Guadalupe County. In the 29 years
since its inception, the Library has grown from a tiny
1,500 square foot space to the current building size of
9,000 square
feet housing a collection of more than 53,000 items. Plans
are currently underway for building a brand new 36,000
square foot facility. |
