Meter Tech I


The Business Office Department has an opening for one (1) Full-Time Meter Tech I.    This is an unskilled to semi-skilled position involved in the maintenance and upkeep of the water distribution, water meters, boxes and vaults.    Uploads and downloads hand-helds for meter reading.  Reads water meters monthly, recheck meter readings and reading errors upon water billing clerk’s request.  Requires the physical strength, agility and dexterity associated with hard labor; standing, walking and driving from place to place.  Hazards exist which could result in lost time or accidents; exposed to all weather conditions, works a 40-hour week, performs stand-by and weekend duties as required.  Schedule stand-by for turn-on/turn-off for non-payment.  Requires:  Basic knowledge of reading, writing, ground maintenance equipment,  and powered/non-powered hand tools.  High School diploma, or GED and be computer literate.  Must have a valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License.

Pay for this position is $11.29 per hour.

Administrative Floating Clerk


The City Manager Department has an opening for a full-time Administrative Floating Clerk  position.  This is a non-supervisory position responsible for providing clerical administrative support for Various Departments.  Provides customer service, answers phones, performs filing and cash collections activities.  Sorts and disburses information and mail.  Compiles and maintains records of business transactions and office activities.  May be responsible for other duties as assigned.

Requires:  Ability to type 40 words per minute; Ability to use Microsoft Office applications; Ability to exercise tack and diplomacy with staff and the public; Ability to enunciate and speak clearly; Ability to use phone etiquette; Record keeping, filing, general office procedures, and clerical skills; High School Diploma or GED equivalent; Minimum one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; Texas Driver’s class C Driver’s License.

Pay for this position is $11.29 per hour, which includes an excellent benefit package to include Health, Dental and Life Insurance programs.

Serviceman I


The City of Schertz has an opening in the Public Works Water Waste/ Wastewater Department for one Serviceman I position.  Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.  This work requires basic knowledge of construction equipment, ground maintenance equipment a powered/non-powered hand tools.  Must obtain a Class “D” Water and Wastewater Certificate of Competency from TCEQ within six (6) months of employment to this position.  Must have a valid Class “C” Texas driver’s license.  This position is unskilled to semi-skilled work involving the construction, installation, maintenance and repairs of city water distribution system and sewer collection system.  Has contact with the public requiring tact and diplomacy.  No supervisory responsibility.

Pay for this position is $11.74 hour, which includes an excellent employee benefit package to include Health Dental, and Life Insurance programs.

Part Time Facilities Technician I


The City of Schertz is accepting applications for one Part-time Facilities Technician I position in the Facilities Maintenance Department.  Working in various buildings such as; Northcliffe Community Center, Civic Center, Community Center Central, and other City buildings as required. The work is involved in general maintenance/custodial upkeep.

Requires daily contact with the public; makes daily decisions on maintenance requiring mature judgment; participates in "On the Job Training" and "Safety  Programs"; involves use of different equipment and materials.  Requires basic knowledge of maintenance equipment and supplies, building maintenance such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC systems and audio/video equipment.  Should be able to follow instructions; follow safety and health regulations.  One year prior experience in custodial/facility maintenance field preferred but not required.  Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.  Must have valid Texas driver's license.  Requires  physical  strength, agility and dexterity associated with hard labor.  This position is 28 hours per week.

Overnight work schedule will consist of Thursday through Sunday 9:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. variable times and dates may be required.

Pay for this Part-time Facilities Technician I position is $11.74 per hour and includes Retirement Benefits and Sick Leave.

Public Works Receptionist-Dispatcher


The City of Schertz has an opening in the Public Works Department for one Receptionist-Dispatcher position.  This is semi-skilled, non-supervisory, administrative duties, involved in answering telephone calls, receiving visitors and counter customers, answering questions of a general nature, departmental responsibilities and processing work requests from various sources.  Administers the division dispatching radio equipped work crews.

Requires:  General knowledge of all office machines and other related equipment.  Type at least 40 words per minute accurately; must be able to proofread, edit and correlate handwritten documents.  Requires minimum supervision of file management.  Must have pleasant telephone/radio voice and the ability to deal with the public and other department employees using tact and diplomacy. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Incode.  Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.  Must have a valid Class “C” Texas Drivers License.

Preferred:  A minimum of 2 years previous experience is preferred, but not required. Familiar with the City of Schertz Code or Ordinance, Subdivision Code, Water and Waste water standards and specifications codes and Texas Department of Health rules and regulations.
