Residential Alarm Permits

 

RESIDENTIAL ALARM ORDINANCE

 

 

NOTICE: In accordance with City of Schertz Ordinance 03-M-06,   an alarm permit is required for each alarm site within the Schertz city limits. An alarm site is any location that has a Broadcast System that emits a signal (audible, visible, or causes the response of any emergency service). This does not include vehicle alarms (unless permanently located at a site) or an alarm designed only to alert the inhabitants of the premises.

 

PERMITS: Alarm permits can be obtained by submitting an application to the Schertz Police Department at a cost of $10.00 per year. The permit must be visible on the front door or window closest to it. A permit cannot be transferred to another location or person. Operation of an alarm system without a permit is in violation of the ordinance and the site owner will be subject to a service fee.

 

Permits must be renewed on a yearly bases. A permit will be revoked for non-renewal 30 days after expiration. Please inform our office if you are moving or disabling the alarm.

 

FAILURE TO OBTAIN OR RENEW PERMIT: A person commits an offense if he operates or causes to be operated, an alarm system without an alarm permit issued by the Chief and can be fined up to $200.00 .

 

FALSE ALARMS : Any false alarm emitted from an alarm system after the THIRD FIRE ALARM or THIRD BURGLAR/PANIC ALARM within a 12-month period shall be a violation of the ordinance and subject to a service fee.
